Sleep Depervation

Posted by Charles E. Harris Jr on September 22, 2010 at 11:05 AM Comments comments (1)

I wanted to ask how everyone else feels about the subject of sleep depervation? I use to be against anyone or anything that would go against us working a 24 hour shift, until I went to the Kentucky State EMS Conference last week and sit in on a class about sleep depervation. I know think we need to take a step back and rethink the way we work our shifts in fire and ems.

Dealing with Non-Believing Co-Workers

Hi everyone,

This is something that has really been weighing heavily on me.  I'm fairly new to the Fire/EMS scene and I've noticed that, at least in my department, Christian technicians and firefighters are the minority.  I've ridden quite a few shifts and been with many different partners and none of them have been believers.  They're all caught up in the secular.  Conversations are generally full of immensely profane language, exceptionally crude jokes, and stories of parties and how they intend to spend their off-time which usually entails drinking until they can't stomach anymore but leaving enough time to sober up for their next shift. And the attitude, 99.9% of the time leads them to extreme cynicism concerning their job and inevitably crosses over into the patient care realm. After every single shift I find myself completely spiritually and emotionally drained and it's not necessarily because of the calls that I've run that shift, but more so with the verbal and emotional garbage that I have seen or heard.  It hurts because I understand that there's so much more to life and that this profession is an AMAZING opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ.  I was just curious how some of you veterans of the profession have dealt with similar people and situations.  I'm just a brother trying to find some encouragement haha.

thoughts about the Fellowship of Christian Paramedics Inc

I am just sitting here at my computer and was wondring how we can get the news out about the Fellowship of Christian Paramedics Inc more than it is already and how we can let folks know that this group is open to anyone that works in the Emergency Services Field. We are here for the Paramedics, EMT's' Firefighters, Law Enforcement Officers, Nurses, Doctors, PA's, Dispatchers, First Responders. We want them to know that we are here to pray with them and for them and if they just need to have someone to talk to about anything that they are going through then we are here for them.

We are still a very young group, we ahve only been around now for about 3 years and we have gotten about 100 memebrs as of now. We do not charge a membership fee to join the group beacsue I was felt lead by God to opereate the Fellowship off of donations that we get from our memebers. I have faced a lot of trails over this beacsue the donations have not came in and we have been so Blessed by God to allow us to have a tax service that takes care of our books that is ran by Christian people. We have been over 120 days late the last two years on getting them paid at the end of the year for keeping our books and filing our taxes. We received a donation from one of our memebrs to pay the tax bill last year and this year I paid it out of my pocket. I have also been paying the $100 a month donation to K-Love raido station that we committed to for one year, but once this year is up I will have to stop paying that donation becasue I can not afford to pay it out of my pocket.

I want this group to do so much and be able to reach our other brothers and sisters for Christ in this field of work but we are just unable to do that with out more members and most of all the money to be able to get materal and other stuff printed up and being able to travel to confreneces to get the word out  we will not be able to do this. I pray that God will provide and I know He will becasue He always dose. I can understand now how pastors and other church people feel when they have to get up and speak about money becasue it is very hard to do and you make people mad when you do this and you get some very negative comments back from people becasue of have spoken about the need for money.

We have a very small budget and I run the Fellowship of Christian Paramedics Inc out of my home office becasue we have no other means to finiance the Fellowship of Christian Paramedics Inc. I would love to have a office building and meeting rooms so that we could have our meeting at our own building and I would like to have an office staff and fax machines and all the other stuff that other groups have but we are just unable to do this becasue we are so young and very little support, and once again I know that there will be reprocussions for speaking about money. I want to be able to go to the national EMS conferences and FDIC and other places to get the word out about the Fellowship of Christian Paramedics Inc, but these places charge for space to set up and give out information about your group and also it takes money to get this stuff printed up and into the hands of people.

Please keep praying that God will use the Fellowship of Christian Paramedics Inc to reach our Brothers and Sisters in this filed of work for Him. I would also like to ask that you will pray that we always put God First in our lives and everything that we do.

We had a relly good church service this morning. We talked about how nice it was to have a friend, and God was a friend to us just as we are. I had never really thought about that much until this morning. God is our best friend He is always there to listen when we need someone to talk to and He never says anything bad to us or about us. He is there for us when we call on Him no matter what time day or night that we call. He never gives us excuses that He can not come right now becasue He is busy or He has something else more important to take care of. He dose not push His will on us He gives us the chose to make our own mind up as to if we are going to allow Him to be our friend. He dose not look down on us becasue of where we have came from or what our background is or the color of our skin or how much money that we have or what clothes we ware.

I just sit an amazment once I started to think about all of that and I tried to think of a earthly frined that would even come close to this and I could not come up with one that would meet every single thing that I said above, but yet God can and even do more for us if we just let Him be our Friend and Lord and Savior.

i have found that if you go under the Heading of members and then hit join this site and then hit already a memeber and then sign in that you can make a post to the Blog page. I will work on getting it so that you do not have to go through all that to be able to post a blog but for now this is the way that you have to do to be able to post a Blog entry.

Thanks

Charles Harris
